DBA Exercises

DBA Exercises

The purpose of this page is to offer a couple of usefull exercises of situations a DBA can find in practice. The exercises are ment to simulate common situations in a safe and protected environment that would give a DBA a hard time when done without practice in a critical database with hundreds of users pushing behind his back. I can simulate the technical trouble. If you want to experience the real physical pressure to you should do these exercises in your live production database. (Do know I can not accept responsibility for any outcome.)

I am sure there are more elaborate exercises possible than the ones I am offering. My goal however is to keep it small and simple. Start as quickly as possible with as little preparation time as needed. If you are eager you can easily dive in to the subjects a bit deeper. Adjust my original exersises.

I Will try to keep commands in a form that makes it possible to cut and paste them easily to a telnet session.

Oh, by the way, I am a Unix guy. Not religious about it though. I won't say Windows sucks. I've worked with other systems than Unix and Windows. Tandem for instance. In that light Unix sucks only a little less than Windows.
